Sick of your exercise bike that goes nowhere? Ride a bike but don’t look like a lycra-clad budget superhero? Sick of nearly getting run over by buses and taxis? Come celebrate our greener and greater method of transport at the monthly Critical Mass bike ride this Friday, 7th July at 6pm outside St. Philips cathedral.
This week London Critical Mass cyclists won a high court decision against the Metropolitan Police over the legality of the peddle-powered demonstrations.
This comes after police handed leaflets to cyclists at a Critical Mass last September claiming that they were unlawful because under the Public Order Act the organisers were required to give six days notice of the date and proposed route, plus their names and addresses. However Lord Justice Sedley and Mr Justice Gray ruled that police were misinterpreting the law, and that no advanced notice was required because Critical Mass was not a ‘notifiable procession’ under the POA.
SouthWest ClimateCamp Neighbourhood gets its own site

CHRISTIANITY HELPED TO CREATE CAPITALISM...NOW IT MUST DESTROY IT!
Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered innocent men, who were not opposing you. (James 5:1-6)

pun intended. the outcome of the court case is now known, but we must maintain pressure
With the unfortunate (but not entirely unexpected) outcome of the court case now known, we must take a moment to consider the direction our future protest will take.
We'd like to invite you to the Scottish organising gathering for the Camp for Climate Action, which will take place at Talamh Housing Co-op (South Lanarkshire), Sat 8- Sun 9 July.
The meeting will be a chance for people from Scotland to come together and plan for the climate camp as well as joining in with the overall organising of the camp. We're expecting 60-80 people, from England and Scotland.
Today (17/06/06) the Highways agencies M1 motorway exhibition was (allegedly) disrupted by members of the No M1 Road widening campaign. Having toured the slick PR display boards and wide screen monitors, which were actually very short on real information that many members of the public were asking, they brought a touch of reality by playing back a sound recording of the M1 (3 thee lanes only!). Although the recording was played much quieter than the real thing it still proved too much for those on the highway agencies payroll. They demonstrated that sound had no part in the exhibition and they did not know how much louder an extra lane on the M1 would be.
Fliers & pretty posters, in English & Welsh, are available if you contact the EF! gathering collective, or you can download them from the website, http://earthfirstgathering.org.uk
Plus all the usual info on workshops, entertainments (& how to offer both), what to bring and not to bring, pratical info on access, dogs, kids and much much more.
Oh, the long summer stretches ahead of you, weeks and weeks of hot days and nothing but Big Brother on tv. If only there was something better to do with your summer... something effective, positive and fun.... something like DIRECT ACTION.
Tuesday, 20 June, 7.00 PM @ The Square (20-22 Russell Square, WC1)
Summer's here, the weather's hotting up, and the Climate Camp is drawing nearer. If you're from London and thinking about going to the camp, now is the time to find out more and get involved!
The Dutch did direct action for European Day of Action against Aviation. They invaded Schipol Airport under the cover of darkness and blocked the taxiway for three hours by locking themselves on using a variety of instruments. Meanwhile, Belgians let off black helium balloons in the terminal building, French wandered about the airport in night clothes, armed with leaflets. An ASBO was served on Luton airport, and there were other events around the UK & the rest of Europe.
No Widening M1 are having a noise demo at Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield, this Thursday 15th June, meet at 5.45.
This protest will co-incide with the opening of the Highways Agency's exhibitions about the proposals. Various dignatories and the press have been invited to come at this time.
between 600 and 1000 people took part in the naked bike ride protest yesterday afternoon in the blazing sunshine. meeting up at wellington arch from around midday, it soon became clear this travelling naked protest against the dominance of car culture and oil dependency was going to be something extraordinary.
The Camp for Climate Action will run from 26th August to 4 September 2006 in the North of England. To get involved in organising the camp please come along to the next monthly organising meeting in London, 9-10 June
