activist trauma gathering, 4th February, London

Activist Trauma Network logo

Saturday 4th February 2006 10am-5pm

The Activist Trauma Network is organising a day of discussion and networking for all who are involved in promoting practical mutual support in activist, campaigning and community groups. This is an ever expanding area, as political work of any kind can be extremely demanding on every level. Many, but not all of us, became involved in this work by having first hand experience of trauma related to activism, police brutality, burn-out, stress-related physical illness and mental health issues. We are planning to discuss our own chosen work in these areas and expand on ideas we may have for projects, make new contacts and give/receive constructive feedback.

Brum buy nothing day shit

Saturday November 26th 2005 was Buy Nothing Day (UK), the self proclaimed festival of frugal living and culture jammers jamboree. A day to expose the environmental and ethical consequences of consumerism, where developed countries (only 20% of the world population) are consuming over 80% of the earth's natural resources, causing a disproportionate level of environmental damage and unfair distribution of wealth.

Steal Something Day, a shameless 24-hour stealing spree!

The 24 hour moratorium on spending, 'Buy Nothing Day' is this Saturday 26th November in the UK. 6 years ago some Canadian anarchists came up with a critique of 'Buy Nothing Day' and called for a new initiative, 'Steal Something Day'.

22.09.2005
My trip to a 4x4 dealer's to put gas-guzzlers out of action, and leave a statement of solidarity with the planet and against petrol-wastage.

Last night, inspired by Greenpeace's big parking ticket campaign for 4x4 gas-guzzlers, I decided to put some of these monsters out of action at source, in this case the Toyota showroom on Leeds Road, Huddersfield.

The machine is all around us, omnipresent and omniscient. It's the camera on the street corner, the chip in your debit card and the number allotted to your child at birth. The machine is without and within. It's in the way we have been trained and domesticated since birth to fit into a mechanical world dictated by capital and the tick, tick, tick of its clock.
