SAINSBURY GM FEED CAMPAIGN: How you can help now

04.02.2005

We're urgently seeking some last minute assistance in the ongoing saga of British GM animal feed imports. This is a short, easy action for everyone.

For those of you who haven't been following the activities of the 'Fair Price for GM Free Milk Coalition', the story in brief is that last year a group of independent farming unions and grassroots campaigners got together to try and target the use of GM animal feed in the UK. The idea was to start by encouraging Sainsbury's to keep its four year commitment to phase out GM feed.

Phone and Email Blockade of Bayer Cropscience

25.03.2004

Monday 22nd of March saw a phone and email blockade of Bayer Cropscience, aimed at undermining their communications and disrupting the smooth running of their offices.

The direct line of Paul Rylott, the head of Bioscience, was chosen along with the main Cropscience email adrress. Unfortunately Rylott's line appeared to have been disconected so for the rest of the day it was the backup number - for the bioscience department - which was called instead. It is not known how many people took part in this action but we must have caused some bother as the operator was taken off the phone early in the day and the answerphone switched on instead. Hopefully when they listened to it it was full of anti-gm messages. Hundreds of emails were also sent.

Paul Rylott may have been sacked by Bayer but he's not gone yet! And he is still one of the key players in the attempt to bring GM crops into Britain.

Monday 18th February 2002 - National Day of Action against Scotts

Corwen peat (national day of) action
Across the UK offices, factories and peat extraction sites belonging to The Scotts Company (the world's largest horticultural company) were today occupied or disrupted by activists protesting against the continued destruction of rare raised peat bog habitats. Seven facilities belonging to Scotts were targeted by Peat Alert, a recently-formed national campaign network, which aims to stop peat extraction in the UK and Europe. "We want Scotts to know that they cannot continue decimating our wild places without attracting this type of disruptive opposition", said Danielle Locke, a spokesperson for the network.

GenetiX Snowball break their injunctions (1999)

On 5th August three members from GenetiX Snowball openly and accountably trashed an AgrEvo test site, breaking an injunction served against them. They took the bagged up crops to AgrEvil's HQ in Norfolk where the staff were totally phased, despite the fact that they had been sent a letter saying they were going to break their injunctions.

Smash Genetix Action in Lincolnshire (July 1999)

As with the Greenpeace action the previous week, the Smash Genetix action was targeted at GM fodder maize. Unlike its oilseed rape, AgrEvo's GM maize already has consent to be grown in the European Union. This means that the government is under no obligation to inform the public, or other farmers or bee-keepers about where it is being grown.

Greenpeace Action in Norfolk (24 or 25th July 1999)

Greenpeace Norfolk GM actionThe following weekend, Greenpeace activists, including its executive director Lord Melchett, decontaminated a GM maize farm-scale trial in Lyng, Norfolk.
